The steering gear is located on the chassis of the vehicle. Oil leakage from the steering gear is generally not easy to detect because the fluidity of the booster oil is relatively poor. If the steering rack does not run, the booster oil will not leak. Therefore, oil leakage from the power steering rack is a fault that is not easily discovered. Generally, the consumption of booster oil is very small. It is best to check the booster oil level regularly and repair the oil leakage problem of the power steering rack as soon as possible.
Judgment of steering rack oil leakage: Check the possible oil leakage parts of the steering gear
The possible oil leakage parts of the steering rack include: the left and right ends of the steering gear, the oil pipe joint, the drive shaft and the outside of the entire housing.
1. Lift the vehicle and remove the guard plates on the left and right front wheels and the left and right sides of the power steering rack.
2. Check the inside and outside of the dust covers at both ends of the steering rack. If oil is found inside the dust cover, it can be basically judged as oil leakage; if the dust cover boot is dry, it indicates that there is no oil leakage at both ends of the steering rack.
3. Dry the steering rack housing and the connection part with the oil pipe, turn the direction and stay at the left and right limit positions for 1-3 seconds each, repeat several times; observe possible oil leakage parts.
Check strictly according to the above steps. If there is still no oil leakage, the steering rack has no oil leakage failure.
Note: This method is applicable to all hydraulic power steering racks.
