The pinion is a smaller gear that meshes with a larger gear (the aforementioned gear) to transfer motion and power. In a crusher context, the pinion is often mounted on the drive shaft and rotates to engage the main gear, which in turn drives the other moving components within the crusher. For instance, in a cone crusher, the pinion is connected to the electric motor and turns the mantle, causing it to oscillate and crush material. The pinion's teeth must be accurately aligned with those of the gear for efficient power transmission and to avoid excessive wear or breakage.
