Product Description
The Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) machine, often abbreviated as EDM, represents the pinnacle of modern mechanical processing technology. This exceptional equipment is primarily employed for performing intricate electrical discharge machining tasks, making it indispensable in the fabrication of precise metal molds and cutting-edge mechanical apparatus. EDM stands out as a unique processing technique, wherein electrical corrosion generated by pulsed discharges between electrodes, submerged in a specialized working fluid, meticulously erodes conductive materials. This immaculate process, also known as discharge machining or electrical corrosion machining, is commonly referred to by its English acronym, EDM.

Principle of Spark Machine:
In the sophisticated realm of Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), the tool electrode and the workpiece are meticulously connected to the opposite poles of the pulse power supply. Submerged in working fluid or filled into the discharge gap, when the spatial gap between these two electrodes reaches a precise distance, the applied pulse voltage triumphs over the working fluid's resistance, triggering an electrifying spark discharge.
During the fleeting moment of discharge, an immense amount of thermal energy is concentrated within the micro-channel, soaring to astonishing temperatures of over 10,000 degrees Celsius, accompanied by dramatic pressure fluctuations. This formidable energy causes localized melting, vaporization, and ejection of metal material into the working fluid. The expelled material rapidly solidifies into fine metal particles, which are then carried away by the working fluid, leaving a tiny pitting mark on the workpiece surface. The process then pauses as the working fluid re-establishes its insulating state between the electrodes.
Subsequently, the ensuing pulse voltage sparks a discharge at another proximate point between the electrodes, repetitively creating spark discharges. Each pulse discharge erodes a minuscule amount of metal. However, due to the high frequency of thousands of pulses per second, a substantial cumulative metal removal is attained, thereby ensuring impressive productivity levels.
By maintaining a consistent discharge gap between the tool electrode and the workpiece, the erosion of workpiece metal progresses as the tool electrode advances towards it. Ultimately, the machined shape becomes a perfect mirror of the tool electrode. By varying the tool electrode's shape and its relative motion to the workpiece, intricate profiles are meticulously crafted. Materials boasting high electrical conductivity, high melting points, and ease of processing-such as copper, graphite, copper-tungsten alloy, and molybdenum-are commonly employed for tool electrodes. Despite the intense process, the tool electrode experiences minimal wear compared to the workpiece metal corrosion, often resulting in negligible loss.
Acting as the crucial discharge medium, the working liquid is vital for cooling and chip removal throughout the machining process. Optimal working liquids are those with low viscosity, high flash points, and stable performance, such as kerosene, deionized water, and emulsion. EDM machines operate on self-excited discharge principles: the spark discharge between the electrodes is initiated with a high voltage, breaking down the medium as the electrodes approach each other and igniting a spark. This discharge causes a sharp drop in resistance and voltage. The spark channel must extinguish swiftly (within 10-7 to 10-3 seconds) to retain the 'cold pole' characteristic, ensuring that the channel energy impacts only a minuscule area, thereby causing localized erosion of the electrode. This precision-focused material removal technique is known as EDM.
