The valve assembly is a key component of the hydraulic end of the mud pump, with high working frequency and large impact. Its quality directly affects the service life of the hydraulic cylinder and is one of the main vulnerable parts of the mud pump. Valve assembly is composed of two parts: the valve body and the valve seat. According to the inner hole of the valve seat, the valve assembly can be divided into 4-Web valve assembly, 3-Web valve assembly, and full open valve assembly. Compared with the 4-Web valve seat, the 3-Web Valve seats have a larger displacement than the four-bar seats and provide a directly assembled body and valve rubber for long service life. Rubber is made of polyurethane material. The effective service time is more than 300 hours, which greatly improves the overall life of the valve assembly.



Components of Mud Pump Valve Assemblies
A typical mud pump valve assembly consists of:
- Valve Body: Housing that contains the valve elements and provides structural support.
- Valve Seats: Provide a sealing surface against which the valve elements close.
- Valve Elements (Balls or Flappers): Move to allow or restrict flow based on pump operation.
These components work together to regulate the flow of mud through the pump, ensuring continuous and efficient circulation.
Working Mechanism
During operation, mud pump valve assemblies function cyclically with the reciprocating motion of the piston. When the piston moves, suction valves open to allow mud into the pump chamber. On the return stroke, suction valves close, and discharge valves open to expel mud under pressure into the drill string. This process is essential for cooling the drill bit, carrying cuttings to the surface, and maintaining wellbore stability.
