Kaolin is a highly versatile mineral clay and clay rock known for its superb plasticity and outstanding fire resistance.
Kaolin's primary applications include paper making, ceramics, and refractory materials. It also serves as an essential ingredient in paints, rubber fillers, enamel glazes, and white cement. Additionally, it is utilized in plastics, paint, grinding wheels, pencils, daily cosmetics, soap, and pesticide production.
Kaolin is categorized into three types: washed kaolin, calcined kaolin, and lightweight kaolin.
Kaolin is an inorganic non-metal mixture. Calcined kaolin undergoes a transformative process in a sintering furnace at precise temperatures and durations, altering its physical and chemical properties to meet specific industrial requirements.
Main specifications available: 200mesh, 325mesh, 400mesh, 600mesh, 800mesh, 1250mesh, 3000mesh, and 4000mesh.
Differences Between Calcined Kaolin and Washed Kaolin
Firstly, calcination of kaolin induces chemical transformations in its crystal structure and original soil, while washing kaolin with water only causes physical changes without altering the inherent properties of the soil.
Secondly, calcined kaolin boasts higher whiteness compared to washed kaolin, which does not experience a significant increase in whiteness, leading to noticeable differences.
The third category, hard kaolin, primarily requires calcination because the original soil lacks cohesiveness, making it unsuitable for direct use in papermaking or refractory materials. Conversely, washed kaolin possesses cohesiveness, making it directly usable as a binder in refractory materials or as a paper filler. Generally, calcined kaolin is preferable for the papermaking industry due to its enhanced properties, though it comes with a higher cost.

1) Paper- making Industry: Primarily utilized in the production of coating paper, art paper, white board paper, and corrugated paper, as well as cast-coated paper. Perfectly suited for gravure printing due to its superior loose depth and elasticity, ensuring minimal leaks and spots.
white board paper; Cast coated paper and so on. It is more applicable in gravure printing for its good loose depth and elasticity which can guarantee less leaks and spots.
2)Coating Industry : By incorporating Kaolin into pigments during the paper and paperboard coating process, the product's whiteness, smoothness, and opacity are significantly enhanced.
3)Oil and Paint Industry : Adding Kaolin significantly improves viscosity, fluidity, and anti-precipitation properties. It enhances the enamel glaze slip's floatation, viscosity, adherence, and thermal casting resistance, ensuring the enamel adheres better to iron billets. Kaolin also acts as an anti-precipitating agent in water paints and serves as an excellent inorganic latex agent.
properties of floatation, viscosity, adherence and thermal casting resistance can be well improved by adding Kaolin because it can make the cast enamel more adhesive to iron billet. Kaolin also plays the role of anti-precipitating when used in water paint. It is also a kind of good inorganic latex agent.
4)Rubber Industry : During the production of cable rubber and plastics, Kaolin enhances abrasiveness, hardness, shock resistance, and elongation rate, providing superior performance.
5)Plastic Industry : Kaolin acts as a reinforcing agent with excellent dispersion capabilities. In thick films, it also blocks infrared rays with wavelengths of 7-14um, helping to increase the temperature within the shed.
6)Ceramics : Extensively used in the production of high and low voltage ceramics, various ceramic billets, and enamel, Kaolin is also employed in an array of refractory applications.
7)Cable Industry : Kaolin substantially enhances specific volume resistance, dielectric strength, and fire retardancy, owing to its superior dispersion and reinforcement properties.
