Iron Dextran Solution 20%
Iron dextran solution is a dark brown, slightly viscous sterile liquid complex of ferric hydroxide and dextran for intravenous or intramuscular use. It is for treatment of patients with documented iron deficiency in whom oral administration is unsatisfactory or impossible. Iron is essential to the formation of hemoglobin and to the function and formation of other heme and nonheme compounds. Untreated depletion of iron stores leads to iron-deficient erythropoiesis and, in turn, to iron deficiency anemia.

Indication:
Prevention of anaemia by iron deficiency in young piglets and calves and of all its consequences.
Contra-indications:
Muscle dystrophia, Vitamin E-deficiency.
Dosage and administration:
By deep I. M. Injection.
--piglets: One injection of 2 ml of iron dextran on the 3rd day of life.
If necessary, on veterinarian's advice, a second injection of 2 ml may be administered in quickly-growing piglets after the 35th day of life.
--calves: 4-12 ml during the 1st week, if necessary to be repeated at 4 to 6 weeks of age.

Storage Situation: Stored in a cool and dry well-closed container. Keep away from moisture and strong light/heat.
