Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C16H22O4. It is a colorless, transparent, oily liquid with an aromatic odor. It is an important plasticizer and is widely used in industries such as plastics, rubber, and paint to give products good softness. The preparation of dibutyl phthalate is usually prepared by esterification reaction with phthalic acid and n-butanol as raw materials under the action of sulfuric acid catalyst.
