About products
The content of sulfur, phosphorus and other non-metallic inclusions in high-quality carbon structural steel is lower than that in ordinary carbon structural steel. According to the difference of carbon content and use, this kind of steel can be roughly divided into three categories:
1. low-carbon steel with carbon content less than 0.25%, especially 08F, 08Al, etc. with carbon content less than 0.10%, which are widely used as deep drawing parts such as automobiles, cans, etc. due to their good deep drawing and weldability. 20G is the main material for manufacturing ordinary boilers. In addition, low carbon steel is also widely used as carburizing steel in machinery manufacturing.
2. 0.25~0.60% C is medium carbon steel, which is mostly used in the quenching and tempering state to make parts for the machinery manufacturing industry.
3. Higher than 0.6% C is high carbon steel, which is mainly used to manufacture springs, gears, rolls, etc. According to the different manganese content, it can be divided into two steel groups: ordinary manganese content (0.25~0.8%) and higher manganese content (0.7~1.0% and 0.9~1.2%). Manganese can improve the hardenability of steel, strengthen ferrite, and increase the yield strength, tensile strength and wear resistance of steel. Generally, "Mn" is added after the grade of steel with high manganese content, such as 15Mn and 20Mn, to distinguish it from carbon steel with normal manganese content.

Heat Treatment

Quenching heat treatment is to heat carbon steel to AC3 or AC1 above 30-50°C, after heat preservation in different cooling media for rapid cooling (cooling rate is greater than the critical cooling rate), in order to obtain martensitic structure (M). The quenched structures consist of martensite and residual austenite.
1. Determination of quenching temperature According to different materials, the critical temperature AC3 or AC1 can be found in Table 1, and then the heating temperature can be obtained by adding 40°C.
2. The determination of insulation time parts with the furnace heating to reach the required heating temperature, but also for a period of time of insulation, to ensure that the whole parts evenly and fully reach the required temperature. Obviously, the holding time is related to the size and shape of the workpiece. By measuring the size of the parts, and then refer to Table 2, calculate the insulation time of the specimen.
3. Selection of cooling medium Cooling is the key process of quenching. It directly affects the properties of quenched steel. The quenching cooling rate should be greater than the critical cooling rate to obtain the supercooled martensite structure. At the same time, in the cooling process, the internal stress in the crystallization process should be controlled to prevent deformation and cracking. In order to ensure the quenching effect, the appropriate cooling medium and cooling method should be selected. In this experiment, we choose water at room temperature as the cooling medium.
4. Put the workpiece into the furnace, set the heating control temperature of the electric furnace temperature controller, and start heating.
5. After the electric furnace reaches the set temperature, the timing of heat preservation begins.
6. The workpiece comes out of the oven and is quickly put into water to cool.

Tempering heat treatment of steel
The martensite structure obtained after quenching is hard and brittle, and there is a great internal stress in the workpiece. The purpose of tempering is to eliminate the internal stress, reduce the hardness properly and improve the machining performance. According to different process requirements, tempering can be divided into high temperature tempering, medium temperature tempering and low temperature tempering. The cooling method of tempering is air cooling, that is, the workpiece is slowly cooled at room temperature after being released.
1. Put the workpiece into the furnace, set the heating control temperature of the electric furnace temperature controller, and start heating;
2. After the electric furnace reaches the set temperature, the timing of heat preservation starts, and the heat preservation time is 30 minutes;
3. The workpiece comes out of the oven and is slowly cooled at room temperature.
