Eriocitrin, a flavonoid isolated from lemon, is a powerful antioxidant. Eriocitrin inhibits the proliferation of hepatoma cells by arresting the S-phase cell cycle by upregulating p53, cyclinA, cyclinD3 and CDK6. Eriocitrin triggers apoptosis by activating intrinsic signaling pathways involved in mitochondria.
Pharmacological efficacy: It has a strong antioxidant effect and is long used as an antioxidant in beverages, food and alcohol. Eeritivin can inhibit the oxidative stress injury induced by acute exercise in the liver of rats, and can reduce blood lipids, and its antioxidant capacity is stronger than that of hesperidin and naringin.
