Hypromellose or HPMC is a multi-purpose pharmaceutical excipient, can be used as thickener,dispersant, emulsifier and film-forming agent. It is used as a film coating or adhesive agent in oral solid preparation significantly increase the stabillity, dissolution rate as well as enhance the water-retention properties of a tablet. HPMC can be also used as a suspending agent in the suspension, a matrix material for ophthalmic agent, a skeleton material for hydrophilic gel skeleton sustained-release and gastric floating tablets. Combined with other synthetic polymers and colloidal drugs,HPMC can prevent water or alcohol separating from transparent gels and improve water retention properties. HPMC can also be used as thickener, emulsifier, etc. in the food industry, the daily chemical industry to improve the rheological properties of products. It is also the main raw material used in the production vegetable capsules.
