Aluminium Oxide
Magnesium oxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula MgO, an oxide of magnesium, an ionic compound and a white solid at room temperature. Magnesium oxide exists in nature in the form of magnesite, which is the raw material of magnesium smelting.
Magnesium oxide has a high degree of fire-resistant insulation properties. It can be transformed into crystals by burning at high temperature above 1000°C, and become dead burnt magnesium oxide (magnesium sand) or sintered magnesium oxide when it rises to 1500 - 2000°C.
Magnesium oxide is alkaline oxide, with alkaline oxide properties, belongs to the cementitious materials. It is white or off-white powder, odourless, tasteless and non-toxic, typical alkaline-earth metal oxide, chemical formula MgO. melting point is 2852°C, boiling point is 3600°C, density is 3.58g/cm3 (25°C). Soluble in acid and ammonium salt solution, insoluble in alcohol. Solubility in water is 0.00062 g/100 mL (0 °C), 0.0086 g/100 mL (30 °C).
Classification: There are two kinds of magnesium oxide: light magnesium oxide and heavy magnesium oxide. Light volume loose, white amorphous powder. Odourless, tasteless and non-toxic. Density 3.58g/cm3.Difficult to dissolve in pure water and organic solvents, solubility in water increased by the presence of carbon dioxide. Soluble in acid, ammonium salt solution. Converted into crystals by high temperature burning. When encountered with carbon dioxide in the air to generate magnesium carbonate complex salt. Heavy volume compact, white or beige powder. It is easy to combine with water and absorb water and carbon dioxide in the air. Mixed with magnesium chloride solution is easy to gelatinisation and hardening.
