Glyphosate is an organophosphorus herbicide, a systemic conductive broad-spectrum herbicide. It primarily inhibits the enolacetone-based shikimate phosphate synthetase in plants, blocking the conversion of shikimate to essential amino acids such as phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan. This interference in protein synthesis leads to plant death. Glyphosate controls species from over 40 families, including monocots and dicots, annuals and perennials, herbaceous plants, and shrubs. It is particularly destructive to the underground parts of deep-rooted perennial weeds. Widely applied in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, industrial transportation, and beyond, its uses span from forests and rubber plantations to farmland, orchards, sugarcane fields, and forest fire isolation belts. Additionally, it is employed for non-agricultural weeding along railways, airports, warehouses, oil depots, power stations, and other areas.
