Silicon Carbide, also known as carborundum, is produced by melting a mixture of sillica sand and cokes in ultra high power electric furnaces. Silicon Carbide is chemically stable and has high corrosion resistance, which makes it hard to corrode from exposure to alkali or acid. Silicon carbide is also characterized by its high hardness, outstanding heat resistance, low thermal expansion, resistance to chemical reaction, and ability to function as a semiconductor.
The advantages of using silicon carbide segment sand as a decarburization and deoxygenation agent are as follows:
1. Increase carbon and silicon to reduce the cost of molten iron.
2. Deoxidize and reduce slag, improving the service life of furnace lining.
3. Deoxygenation and degassing, purifying molten iron.
4. Deoxygenation reduces the consumption of spheroidizing agents for ball-milled cast iron.
5. Increase the number of graphite balls and improve the spheroidization level.
6. Add A-type graphite and reduce undercooled graphite.
7. Extend the decay time and eliminate the phenomenon of white cast iron.
8. Improve the uniformity of casting section hardness and prolong the service life of cast iron products.
