Product Description
Lamotrigine is a new antiepileptic drug of benzotriazine, which was marketed in China in 2005. The mechanism of action is to inhibit glutamate-induced action potential by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in the presynaptic membrane and inhibiting pathological glutamate release, thus stabilizing the neuron membrane. Lamotrigine, as a broad-spectrum antiepileptic agent, is mainly used in the monotherapy or adjuvant treatment of partial and systemic epileptic seizures, and can also be used as an emotional stabilizer in the treatment of type I bipolar disorder.

Lamotrigine has relatively few side-effects and does not require laboratory monitoring. While it is indicated for epilepsy and bipolar disorders, there is evidence that lamotrigine could have some clinical efficacy in certain neuropathic pain states.
