The grades of ferro manganese have specific compositions and characteristics that cater to the requirements of different applications in the steel industry. For example, standard ferro manganese is the most commonly used grade, containing between 1.2% and 1.5% carbon. Medium-carbon ferro manganese has a carbon content of between 1.5% and 2.0%, while low-carbon ferromanganese has a carbon content of less than 1.5%. High-carbon ferromanganese has a higher carbon content of between 2.5% and 3.5%, while low-carbon-low-silicon ferromanganese has a lower silicon content than standard ferromanganese.
Ferro manganese is produced through the smelting of iron ore and manganese ore and then processed to remove impurities and increase the content of manganese. The smelting process requires a significant amount of energy, but it produces a high-quality material that is essential for the production of steel.
