Properties of Anthracene Oil

Anthracene oil is a yellow-green oily liquid that can crystallize at room temperature, with the crystals appearing yellow and exhibiting blue fluorescence. It is soluble in ethanol and ether but insoluble in water, and it has a strong irritant effect. The melting point of anthracene is 217°C, the boiling point is 345°C, the autoignition temperature is 540°C, and the closed cup flash point is 121.11°C. The lower explosive limit is 0.6%. Anthracene oil is flammable and corrosive, classified as an organic corrosive substance.

1. Extraction of Fine Chemicals and Chemical Raw Materials: Important chemical raw materials such as anthracene, phenanthrene, and carbazole are not easily obtained economically from the petroleum industry and are primarily extracted from anthracene oil. Additionally, anthracene oil contains substances like phenanthrene, and the processing of anthracene oil can yield anthraquinone.

 

2. Manufacturing of Coatings and Other Products: Anthracene oil can be used as a raw material for coatings, electrodes, pitch, carbon black, wood preservatives, and pesticides, making it suitable for wood preservation and related production.

 

3. Fuel Production: After hydrogenation refining, anthracene oil can be used for fuel production.
