- High Magnetic Permeability: Grain - oriented silicon steel has a very high magnetic permeability. This means that it can easily conduct magnetic flux. In a transformer, for example, a high magnetic permeability allows for efficient transfer of magnetic energy from the primary winding to the secondary winding. The magnetic field lines can pass through the steel core with relatively little resistance, reducing the amount of energy lost as heat due to magnetic hysteresis.
- Low Core Loss: Core loss is a major concern in magnetic applications such as transformers and electric motors. Grain - oriented silicon steel has a much lower core loss compared to non - oriented silicon steel or other magnetic materials. The carefully aligned grains and the optimized microstructure contribute to this property. Lower core loss means that less energy is dissipated as heat during the operation of electrical devices, improving their energy efficiency.
