
The Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Bed (UASB) is an efficient anaerobic bioreactor developed by Professor Lettinga and others in the Netherlands in the 1970s. During the operation of the reactor, sewage is uniformly distributed and enters the bottom of the reactor, and the sewage flows from bottom to top through the anaerobic sludge bed reactor.There are three important prerequisites for the operation of UASB reactor:
(1)The formation of granular or flocculent sludge with good settling performance in the reactor;
(2)The good natural stirring effect formed by the uniform distribution of gas production and water inflow;
(3)A well-designed three-phase separator can retain sludge with good sedimentation performance in the reactor. The formation of a good granular sludge bed results in high organic load and removal rate, without the need for stirring, and can adapt to load shocks and temperature and pH changes.

(1) The granulation of sludge results in an average concentration of over 50 gVS/L in the reactor, and the sludge age is generally over 30 days;
