What is Ethocel EC Ethyl Cellulose?

Ethyl cellulose (EC) polymer is an organic soluble cellulose ether made from natural cellulose through chemical reaction. It belongs to the non-ionic cellulose ether category. It is white to slightly yellow powder or granules, odorless, tasteless and non-toxic. Ethyl cellulose powder could be widely used in printing inks, pharmaceutical, conductive paste, personal care, ceramic capacitor(MLCC),optical film, food grade, food contact packing,animal feed and many other applications.

In Printing inks,Ethyl cellulose Ethocel is mainly used as a thickener and rheology control agent, which can increase the consistency and viscosity of the ink and improve its fluidity and stability. In addition, ethyl cellulose can also improve the adhesion and film-forming properties of the ink, making the coating more uniform and smooth. Ethyl Cellulose polymers (EC) are recognized and used globally for many different functional purposes in pharmaceutical products.They are frequently used in controlled-release, solid-dosage formulations as well as for protective coatings for water-sensitive or reactive ingredients. They are also useful as granulation binders, as film formers, to improve tablet integrity and appearance,and to mask the taste of bitter active ingredients


1. Granulation: Ethyl Cellulose is often used for solvent granulation of water-sensitive materials

2. Coating: Ethyl Cellulose could be used as solvent-based tablet and bead coatings, they could form strong films with good adhesion.

3.Tablet Binding: Ethyl Cellulose products are used as tablet binders in dry granulation or direct compression formulations

4.Microencapsules: Ethylcellulose sed as encapsulation excipients to prepare sustained-release microcapsules to enable sustained release of drug efficacy and prevent some water-soluble drugs from taking effect prematurely

2. Animal Feed:ETHOCEL Ethylcellulose polymers are organo-soluble film formers. These polymers can be used to control the release of nutrients in animal feed pellets or granules.
