HOW TO CHOOSE SMD FUSE

1. Current Rating

  • Figure out the normal operating current of your circuit. Then, select a fuse with a rated current that's higher than this value. For example, if your circuit usually has a 2A current, a fuse with a 2.5A or 3A rating might be a good choice. Also, consider if there are any inrush currents (like in circuits with motors). If so, you might need a slow - blow fuse.
2. Fuse Type
  • For circuits with stable currents and no big surges (like digital circuits), use a fast - acting fuse. If your circuit has components that cause momentary current spikes (such as motors or transformers), a slow - blow fuse is better.
3. Size
  • Look at the space on your circuit board. SMD fuses come in different sizes like 0402, 0603, etc. Choose a size that fits well on your board.
4. Voltage Rating
  • Make sure the rated voltage of the fuse is higher than the voltage of your circuit. For example, if your circuit operates at 12V, a fuse with a 15V or higher rating would be suitable.
5. Certification
  • Check if the fuse has the necessary certifications for your application. For example, in electronics for the European market, it's good to have RoHS compliance.
