Specification: Ticarcillin Disodium and Clavulanate Potassium for Injection is a sterile injectable antibacterial combination consisting of the semisynthetic antibiotic ticarcillin disodium and the β-lactamase inhibitor clavulanate potassium (the potassium salt of clavulanic acid) for intravenous administration. Ticarcillin is derived from the basic penicillin nucleus, 6- amino-penicillanic acid. Clavulanic acid is produced by the fermentation of Streptomyces clavuligerus . It is a β-lactam structurally related to the penicillins and possesses the ability to inactivate a wide variety of β-lactamases by blocking the active sites of these enzymes. Clavulanic acid is particularly active against the clinically important plasmid-mediated β-lactamases frequently responsible for transferred drug resistance to penicillins and cephalosporins.
Ticarcillin Disodium and Clavulanate Potassium for Injection is supplied as a white to pale yellow powder for reconstitution. It is very soluble in water, its solubility being greater than 600 mg/mL. The reconstituted solution is clear, colorless or pale yellow, having a pH of 5.5 to 7.5.
Ticarcillin Disodium and Clavulanate Potassium for Injection is supplied in vials of the following sizes:

Each Ticarcillin Disodium and Clavulanate Potassium for Injection 1.6 g vial provides Ticarcillin Disodium 1.5 g and Clavulanate Potassium 0.1 g.

Each Ticarcillin Disodium and Clavulanate Potassium for Injection 3.2 g vial provides Ticarcillin Disodium 3 g and Clavulanate Potassium 0.2 g.

Ticarcillin Disodium and Clavulanate Potassium for Injection is used to used to treat the symptoms of bacterial infections such as Septicemia, Lower Respiratory Infections, Bone and Joint Infections, Urinary Tract Infections, Intra-abdominal Infections, and Gynecologic Infections. Timentin may be used alone or with other medications.

INDICATIONS AND USAGE
1.Septicemia
Septicemia (including bacteremia) caused by β-lactamase-producing isolates of Klebsiella spp*., Escherichia coli* , Staphylococcus aureus*, or Pseudomonas aeruginosa* (or other Pseudomonas species)

2.Lower Respiratory Infections
Lower respiratory infections caused by β-lactamase-producing isolates of S. aureus, Haemophilus influenza*, or Klebsiella spp*.

3.Bone And Joint Infections
Bone and joint infections caused by β -lactamase-producing isolates of S. aureus

4.Skin And Skin Structure Infections
Skin and skin structure infections caused by β -lactamase-producing isolates of S. aureus, Klebsiella spp*, or E. coli*

5.Urinary Tract Infections
Urinary tract infections (complicated and uncomplicated) caused by β-lactamase-producing isolates of E. coli, Klebsiella spp., P. aeruginosa* (or other Pseudomonas spp.* ), Citrobacter spp.*, Enterobacter cloacae*, Serratia marcescens*, or S. aureus

6.Gynecologic Infections
Endometritis caused by β-lactamase-producing isolates of Prevotella melaninogenicus*, Enterobacter spp. (including E. cloacae*), E. coli, Klebsiella pneumonia*, S. aureus, or Staphylococcus epidermidis

7.Intra-abdominal Infections
Peritonitis caused by β-lactamase-producing isolates of E. coli, K. pneumoniae, or Bacteroidesfragilis* group

Usage
To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of TIMENTIN and other antibacterial drugs, TIMENTIN should be used only to treat infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria. When culture and susceptibility information are available, they should be considered in selecting or modifying antibacterial therapy. In the absence of such data, local epidemiology and susceptibility patterns may contribute to the empiric selection of therapy.
