Copper peptide is a chemical substance with a molecular formula of C14H24N6O4.
It is a complex of glycyl histidine tripeptide (GHK) and copper. Its aqueous solution is blue, so it is also called "blue copper". Nitrogen (Figure 1).

Copper peptide (tripeptide-copper): It is the ancestor of peptides. Peptides are actually small molecule proteins composed of amino acids. These small molecule proteins are more easily absorbed by the skin. Peptides are composed of some amino acids with specific sequences connected by amide bonds. Two amino acids are called dipeptides, three amino acids are called tripeptides, and so on. Even if the amino acids are exactly the same, if the arrangement and connection methods are different, completely different peptides will be formed. Tripeptide-copper, copper is a trace element required to maintain body functions (2 mg per day), with many and complex functions, and is an element required for the action of various cell enzymes. Because there are many important enzymes in the human body and on the skin that need Cu ions, these enzymes play a role in connective tissue formation, antioxidant defense, and cell respiration. Cu ions also play a signaling function and can affect cell behavior and metabolism. In terms of the role of skin tissue, it has the functions of anti-oxidation, promoting collagen proliferation, and assisting wound healing.

Application & Funtion

GHK-Cu's ability to promote wound healing has been demonstrated in numerous animal studies. In rabbit experiments, GHK-Cu accelerated wound healing and promoted angiogenesis, increasing the levels of antioxidant enzymes in the blood. This molecule also induced wound healing in rats, mice, and pigs. In ischemic wounds in diabetic rats, it promoted healing, reduced TNF-alpha levels, and promoted collagen synthesis. It also promoted wound healing in dog foot pads. These skin regeneration studies have expanded the application of GHK in the beauty industry.

In recent years, GHK-Cu has been widely promoted as a therapeutic ingredient in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, skin inflammation, metabolic colon cancer and other diseases. According to literature, it can upregulate or downregulate nearly 4,000 human genes, and it can restore DNA to a healthier state. These studies provide new ideas for skin remodeling.
Under physiological conditions, GHK-Cu complexes can form binary or ternary structures, which include histidine and the Cu binding region of human albumin. They also found that Cu ions can be easily obtained and bound to the copper transport site of human albumin. It has been shown that the redox properties of Cu ions bound to the GHK tripeptide are silent, so that Cu ions entering cells are safe for cells.
The advantage of CHK-Cu over CHK is that there are many important enzymes in the human body and skin that require Cu ions. These enzymes play a role in connective tissue formation, antioxidant defense, and cellular respiration. Cu ions also play a signaling function and can affect cell behavior and metabolism. For example, sufficient Cu ions are a signal for stem cell proliferation and tissue repair. GHK also helps reduce the concentration of free Cu ions and prevents oxidative damage.
