Carbon Nanotube (CNT) Slurry
A CNT slurry is a liquid dispersion of carbon nanotubes in a solvent, provided by Shandong Dazhan Nano Materials Co., Ltd. It is essential for various manufacturing processes involving CNTs.
Key Features:
- Enables uniform dispersion and distribution of CNTs in composite materials, coatings, inks, etc.
- Allows controlled deposition or patterning of CNTs on surfaces.
- Facilitates pelletization of CNTs for easier handling.
- Acts as precursors for CNT growth on substrates.
Preparation Process:
To prepare CNT slurries:
- Disperse CNTs in a suitable solvent using mechanical agitation or ultrasonication.
- Optionally use dispersants/binders to stabilize the CNT suspension.
- Control CNT concentration, viscosity, pH, etc. as per requirements.
Commonly Used Solvents:
Water, alcohols (e.g., ethanol), organic solvents (e.g., NMP, DMF), acids, etc., are commonly used based on CNT type and downstream application needs.
Challenges:
- Achieving good dispersion stability to prevent CNT agglomeration.
- Retaining intrinsic properties of CNTs after solvent removal.
- Scaling up production while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Considering environmental and safety aspects for some solvents.
Applications:
- Composites (polymer, ceramic) with enhanced mechanical/electrical properties.
- Energy storage devices like batteries and supercapacitors.
- Conductive coatings, inks, and thin films.
- Catalysts and catalyst supports.
- Filtration membranes.
