Product Description
Zinc oxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula ZnO. It is a form of zinc oxide, in which Zn exists in the +2 form and O exists in the -2 form.Zinc oxide crystals have three structures: hexagonal wurtzite structure, cubic sphalerite structure, and the rare sodium chloride octahedral structure. The wurtzite structure is the most stable of the three and is therefore the most common. The cubic sphalerite structure can be obtained by gradually generating zinc oxide on the surface. In both crystals, each zinc or oxygen atom forms a regular tetrahedral structure with its neighboring atoms. The octahedral structure has only been observed under high pressure conditions of 10 billion Pascals.
Application
Rubber industry
In the rubber or cable industry, it is used as a vulcanizing activator, reinforcing agent and colorant for natural rubber, synthetic rubber and latex to make the rubber have good corrosion resistance, tear resistance and elasticity. It is a colorant and filler for white glue and a vulcanizing agent in chloroprene rubber. Those with fine particles (particle size of about 0.1μm) can be used as a light stabilizer for plastics such as polyolefins or polyvinyl chloride. The thermal conductivity of typical pure silicone rubber is relatively low; the thermal conductivity of silicone rubber can be improved by adding ZnO thermal conductive powder while maintaining its high electrical resistance. The addition of nanoscale fillers can achieve high thermal conductivity even at relatively low filling contents. However, due to the weak interaction between the surface of the nanoparticles and the polymer, ZnO nanoparticles tend to aggregate together to form large-sized particles in the polymer matrix, affecting the mechanical properties of the rubber.
Textile Industry
Used in Textile Coatings, Waterproof and Self-Cleaning Textiles have promising uses applications and commercial fields for everyday applications. Self-cleaning and waterproof textiles help prevent stains on clothing and can protect the body from the harmful UV part of sunlight. Nanostructured ZnO coatings are more breathable and more effective as UV blockers compared to their bulk counterparts..
Pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry
Pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries Zinc oxide is used in dentistry, primarily as a component of toothpaste, but also in temporary fillings. ZnO is also used in various types of nutritional products and dietary supplements to provide essential dietary zinc. ZnO nanoparticles are used in sunscreens, which contain viscous formulations that are difficult to rub into the skin and are cosmetically unattractive. Due to their ability to absorb UV radiation, these products are beginning to be used in face creams
Catalysis Industry
Electron-hole pairs are generated below the light intensity through oxidation or reduction reactions occurring on the catalyst surface. In the presence of a photocatalyst, organic pollutants can be directly oxidized by photogenerated holes, or indirectly oxidized by reactions with characteristic reactive groups (ROS). Commonly used catalysts include ZnO, which can exhibit photocatalytic activity below the UV light intensity. ZnO has poor stability and low sensitivity to photocorrosion. However, zinc oxide provides better stability, it offers better crystallinity and smaller defects. The photocatalytic activity of ZnO can be further improved by adding other components, and the visible spectrum range of zinc oxide can be extended
Electronics Industry
Zinc oxide is an important new semiconductor with a wide range of applications in electronics and electrical engineering. Its wide energy band (3.37 eV) and high bond energy (60 meV) at room temperature mean that zinc oxide can be used in optoelectronic and electronic devices, devices that emit surface acoustic waves, field emitters, sensors, ultraviolet lasers, and solar cells.
