Thumb Screw
Knurled screws DIN 464 are turned entirely from a single piece. The thread of the screw generally extends up to the shoulder and ends in a runout without recess. They are suitable for universal use and can be quickly tightened and loosened without tools.
Type: | Thumb Screw |
Definition: | Thumb Screw, a screw, the head of which is so constructed that it may be turned easily with the thumb and a finger. We often write two words together as thumbscrews. |
Description: | What are Thumb Screws? Thumb screws (sometimes written as thumbscrews) are multipurpose fasteners designed to be tightened and loosened by hand, rather than needing tools like screwdrivers or wrenches for installation. |
Application: | What size thread is a thumb screw? Before plating or coating thumb screws, threads are Class 2A. After plating or coating the threads can be Class 3A maximum and Class 2A minimum. They are fully threaded. Typically, thumb screw sizes-listed as whole numbers and fractional inches-range from #6 to 3/8" in diameter; 1/2" may also be available. |
Others: | Thumb screws are fully threaded and come in two types: Type A: these have a shoulder and are also called Type S. The shoulder provides a bearing surface, so that the thumb screw can be tightened against the mating surface. How Type A thumb screws are measured: from under the shoulder to the tip. |
