Optical Brightening Agent BMU LIQ
Fluorescent whitening agent with bluish violet white shade for cellulosic fibers and polyester/cellulose blends at all stages of processing.
Versatile application by continuous and exhaust processes.
Characteristics | Benefits |
-Liquid, pumpable formulation, miscible with water in all proportions. | Simple handling, suitable for automatic dispensing equipment. |
-Medium affinity. | No tailing, thus highly suitable for continuous processes. Outstanding leveling properties in exhaust and wash-whitening processes. |
-Excellent build-up. | Very high and brilliant white maximum in continuous and exhaust applications. |
-Very good acid stability. | Highly suitable in crosslinking baths. Catalysts selection in cellulosic crosslinking baths not critical |
-Very good acid fastness. | No risk on acidification of textiles pretreated in an alkaline medium. |
-Good stability to alkali, peroxide and electrolyte. | Designed for semi-continuous and continuous bleaching with hydrogen peroxide. Trouble free mixing with concentrated hydrogen peroxide in dispensing units. |
-Very good stability to reducing agents. | Suitable for incorporation in print pastes for white discharges. Appropriate for reductive discontinuous bleaching. |

Technical notes on application
Cellulosic fibers
Continuous process: | From water, in neutral to slightly acid finishing liquors(pH above 3.5). In the peroxide impregnation bleach, in the immersion bleach and in wash-whitening process. |
Exhaust process: | From water with addition of electrolyte. In the peroxide and reduction bleach. |
Dissolving/diluting
Miscible with cold or warm water in all proportions.
Stock solutions should be kept away from the light; also substrates treated with the whitening agent,
as long as it is not fixed.

Continuous bleaching
BMU LIQ promotes very high whiteness in pad-steam and cold pad-batch
bleaching and can be applied in the immersion (underliquor) bleach. Furthermore, owing to its high acid stability, BMU LIQ can readily be mixed with concentrated hydrogen peroxide in dispersing units. The textile material can be acidified without risk after bleaching process.

*Concentrations are given for dry-on-wet impregnation. In case of wet-on-wet application, a single dosing of the whitening agent is recommended.
*If the goods are rinsed at high temperatures after bleaching in combination with - BMU LIQ,
an electrolyte addition is recommended.

*If the goods are rinsed at high temperatures after bleaching, an electrolyte addition is recommended.
*- BMU LIQ can also be applied in presence of reducing bleaching agents (stabilized sodium dithionite).
Brightening pastel shades
The brightness of pastel shades can be improved in dyeing with
0.1-0.3 % - BMU LIQ
White discharges
White discharges are usually produced with
2-8 g/kg - BMU LIQ
Preliminary trials should be carried out owing to the widely different formulations of the print pastes used
Leveling/stripping
20 - 60 min at 60 - 90 °C
*To freshen up the whiteness and avoid subsequent yellowing, hydrogen peroxide or stabilized sodium dithionite should be added.
*Re-whitening can be carried out with - BMU LIQ or other products in our products range which are suitable for cellulosic fibers.
*- BMU LIQ can be radically stripped using a sodium chlorite bleach.
Note
Heavy metal ions, e.g. copper, iron and manganese (from approx. 0.1 mg/l) impair the fluorescent whitening
effects. These ions must bebuffered with a chelating agent.
Note
Fastness properties were tested and evaluated in accordance with the guidelines for evaluating the colour fastness of textiles (DIN/EN/ISO). Fastness of fluorescent whiteners depend on the quantities applied, the
mode of application as well as the provenience of the fibre material. This may result in deviations of fastn- esses compared to the ones given by us.
