BK-388 is an organoclay (tetraallkyl ammonium bentonite) for solvent-based systems of low,medium and high polarity.
1. Advantages:

☆ High viscosity and excellent thickening property over a wide temperature range.

☆ High purity:high percentage of montmorillonite,free cristobalite <1%.
☆ High efficiency:save 30%dosage compared with ordinary grades.
☆ Good dispersion:self-activated in medium/high polar system.Its fineness can reach 10μ or even less.

BK-388 belongs to the unconventional type of organoclays group, being an easy-to-disperse, self-activated organoclay, BK-388 does not require a chemical (polar) activator to reach the proper level of delamination of the organoclay platelet stacks.
BK-388 can be added at any point in the manufacturing process. If addition is made with polar activator or after grinding,better performance can be expected.
Polar Activator: Dosage of polar activator (such as propylene carbonate, 95%ethanol, 95%acetone or 95% methanol) is 20%-30% by weight of BK-388.
It is always recommended to determine the proper level of addition by experiment. Either defect or excess of chemical activator would result in poorer viscosity development.
5. Recommended Levels:
The amount of BK-388 rheology modifier required depends upon the type of organic system and the degree of thickening or other properties desired. Addition levels are typically between 0.2%- 0.8% based on the total formulation weight.
