Fumaric acid is mainly used as an acidifier and flavoring agent in liquid pharmaceuticals. Fumaric acid can also be used as an acidic component in effervescent tablets, but such applications are limited as it requires the compound to have low solubility in water. It can also be used as a chelating agent, which can produce synergistic effects when combined with other true antioxidants.
