What is A Security Screw?
Security screws feature special heads that make them both significantly harder to remove and more resistant to pressure or wear.Typically made from steel with a zinc coating, security screws are also known as tamper-proof, anti-tamper, and anti-theft screws.Although tamper proof screws can be removed with the right tools, fewer people own the tools, so tamper proof screws can deter opportunist thieves and vandals.If the project you are working on is at risk from vandalism or tampering, then it's necessary to make it tamper proof.The security screw's purpose is to prevent this and deter vandals from attempting to undo the screw.
Type
1) Pin Torx head & Pin Hex Head screw: A star-shaped, 6-lobe recess like a conventional Torx screw. But this head has a pin located in the center, which prevents removal with a standard Torx tool. Pin hex head screw is similar to your conventional Hex head screw but has a pin located in the center, preventing removal with a standard Hex head tool. These screws are also known as 'security Allen screws.
2. One way screws: also known as irreversible screws, are a very unique drive style which ensures that it can only be driven out in the driver moving in one direction. If the driver moves the head in an incorrect direction, the screw will instantly cam.
3. Spanner Security Screws: The spanner security screw is also called snake eyes or pig nose screw heads. That's because of two small indentations on the drive face. Drilled spanner heads are someti-mes called two hole screws.The corresponding drill bit required is also unique and should ideally come with the two-dot drive system.
4. Tri-Wing Heads screw: Tri-wings are shaped as a recessed triangle. This unique but simple design is difficult to defeat with any regular driver head, including a slot or a Phillips bit. You'll hear them referred to as triangle screws as well.
