Garnet sand is a common chemical inert nonmetallic mineral in natural environment. Garnet as a kind of natural abrasive, because of its hardness, high specific gravity, chemical properties and durability become the ideal blasting media on the market. It has the characteristics of non-toxic, low dust, no pollution which is often used as a sandblasting abrasive. Common uses have hardware sand blasting and surface cleaning.
Garnet as a natural abrasive can be used for waterjet cutting because of its high hardness, high cutting speed. It is a cost-effective alternative to silica sand, mineral slags and steel grits and shot.
Compared with rock garnet, river garnet sand can keep the cutting surface smooth and flat. Because river sand is formed after a long time of impact, so its grain edge surface is more rounded, less damage to the material. Products cut from river garnet are more popular with consumers.
