STRUT MOUNT : the unsung hero. Keeps your ride quiet and vibration-free.
As the name implies, it is a component that attaches the suspension strut to the vehicle. In addition, it isolates tire noise and vibration from the vehicle. Many (front) strut mounts also contain a bearing or bearing plate that acts as a steering pivot.

The strut brace is like a sandwich. One side is bolted to the vehicle and the other side is attached to the strut. In the middle is a rubber-like insulating material. Thus, when the vehicle moves over bumps, the up-and-down impact pushes and pulls on the strut. The strut's job is to cushion the impact to reduce the bump effects, noise and vibration that may be transmitted into the vehicle.

On many front struts, the bracket also includes a bearing to which the strut is attached. There is one on each side of the vehicle and these bearings act as steering pivots. This bearing is the key component that affects the smoothness and response of the steering motion.

How do you know if strut mount has to be replaced?
  1. Abnormal noises coming from the steering and suspension system.
  2. Premature and/or uneven tire wear.
  3. Accelerated wear of shock absorbers.
  4. Excessive vibration.
  5. Poor wheel/tire alignment.
  6. Poor steering return.
