Elamipretide(SS31) is a new tetrapeptide that targets and stabilizes mitochondrial cardiolipin, improves multiple functional aspects of mitochondria derived from explanted human failing hearts, and reverses cardiac mitochondrial abnormalities and LV remodeling in a canine model of HFrEF.
SS-31 is a synthetic peptide that improves mitochondrial function and is currently undergoing clinical trials for treatments of heart failure, primary mitochondrial myopathy, and other mitochondrial diseases. Also known as Bendavia or elamipretide, is a mitochondria-targeting peptide that accumulates in mitochondria and scavenges reactive oxygen species.
