Product Description
Zinc oxide, a remarkable inorganic compound with the chemical formula ZnO, stands as a versatile star in industrial applications. Featuring zinc in the +2 oxidation state and oxygen in the -2 state, zinc oxide is celebrated for its multifaceted structural forms: hexagonal wurtzite, cubic sphalerite, and the uncommon sodium chloride octahedral structure. Among these, the hexagonal wurtzite configuration reigns supreme in stability, making it the most prevalent choice. The cubic sphalerite structure emerges with finesse as zinc oxide gracefully layers onto surfaces. In these crystalline forms, each zinc or oxygen atom orchestrates a regular tetrahedral dance with its neighboring atoms. The elusive octahedral structure reveals itself only under the formidable pressure of 10 billion Pascals, showcasing zinc oxide's diverse adaptability.
Application
Rubber Industry
Within the dynamic realms of the rubber and cable industries, zinc oxide plays a pivotal role as a vulcanizing activator, reinforcing agent, and colorant for natural rubber, synthetic rubber, and latex. It imparts exceptional corrosion resistance, tear resistance, and elasticity to rubber products. As a colorant and filler for white glue, zinc oxide's versatility extends to serving as a robust vulcanizing agent in chloroprene rubber. Its fine particles, with a particle size of approximately 0.1μm, are adept at acting as light stabilizers for plastics like polyolefins and polyvinyl chloride. By incorporating ZnO thermal conductive powder, the thermal conductivity of typical pure silicone rubber, which is generally low, can be significantly enhanced while preserving high electrical resistance. Even at lower filling contents, the addition of nanoscale fillers achieves impressive thermal conductivity. However, the weak interactions between ZnO nanoparticles and the polymer can lead to aggregation, forming larger particles within the polymer matrix, potentially impacting the mechanical properties of the rubber. This highlights the need for precise engineering to optimize performance.
