Gun drilling, invented in Europe more than two centuries ago, is the process of drilling deep, straight holes in a variety of metal alloys. It was first invented in order to make long, straight gun barrels, hence the name gun drilling.
Gun drill is considered to be used when the hole depth with diameter range of 2.0~50mm up to or exceeds ten times the diameter, as the gun drill provides high hole precision, accurate hole position, excellent hole surface finishes, good straightness and concentricity. It can be easily applied to process various kinds of deep holes, and also an ideal solution for the special deep holes, such as cross-holes, blind holes and flat-bottomed blind holes etc.
Gundrill blanks - Carbide Rods For Gun Drills can be full-length sticks, cut-to-length heads, and can have preformed, presharpening angles included. Round or other shaped coolant holes, including single hole, double hole or kidney holes, can be manufactured.Standard gundrill extrusions up to 330mm long are available in diameters ranging from 3mm to 45mm OD and are available with three different coolant hole geometries. Gundrill heads requiring diameters smaller than 10mm OD can be manufactured with one or two coolant holes.
